How to Change Oil by Yourself – Step by Step

The Hyundai Sonata is one of the most popular cars on the market. It comes with great features that make this car desirable to many people, like its stylish design and fuel-efficient engine. But one of the hidden costs could be how much you have to pay for an oil change! This guide will show you step by step instructions on how to change your own oil in your 2015 Hyundai Sonata so you can save some money and keep your vehicle running smoothly.

Step 1.

We’re going to do an oil change on a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. It’s a little bit tough to get to the plug and the filter, since it has the full pan at the bottom where you get to take off, or the air ducting, whatever you want to call it. And basically what that bottom thing does is it directs the airflow throughout the engine to cool down certain parts of the car. And without it, your car may run a little bit hotter. So we’re gonna have to take that off to access the the oil filter and the drain plug.

So, take this bottom pan on the backside will off. So, what you want to use to take off the little drain plug, so to take this one off right here, you’re gonna need a number 17 socket. To take off this you could use an oil filter wrench, or you could use some water pumps and take it off yourself. Don’t hire anybody to do it. Don’t take it in because what they end up doing is stripping out your drain plug or they may not put everything together right. Definitely don’t rely on anybody else except for yourself when working on your vehicle.

Step 2.

Once you’ve put the drain plug back in, and taken the old filter off, fill up a little this new oil filter. And then when applying the oil filter into the engine, you want to make sure you lubricate though this overing here with some motor oil, it doesn’t have to be the new stuff, you could just dip your finger in what you have in a drain pan, and then just kind of wipe it around the rim. And then from there, do it hand tight and then give it a quarter turn to fully tighten it.

Step 3.

Fill the engine up with the new oil. Run your engine around the block or just start it up and wait a few minutes and then let it sit for about I want to say maybe an hour, make sure there’s no leaks.

Step 4.

Check your dipstick, make sure it’s up to the proper level. If it’s not then you’re gonna have to add more and that would probably be because your oil is going to go into the oil filter which is going to take up some of your of the oil that it recommends to put in. After you drive your vehicle for a couple of days. Double check your oil to make sure the oil levels good. But make sure there’s no leaks within a couple of days.

And that’s it. Take care of your car!
