VISCOSITY GRADE

SAE 0W-20 provides excellent viscosity levels and performance with 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L and 6.2L V8 engines. SAE 5W-30 is the best viscosity grade for the 4.3L V6, and 6.0L V8 engines.

CAPACITY

2014 GMC Sierra Oil 4.3L V6 and 6.0L V8 capacity is 6.0 quarts (use SAE 5W-30 viscosity). But for the 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8 engines capacity is 8.5 (SAE 0W-20 viscosity).

How to Change Oil by Yourself – Step by Step

As with all DIY projects, it’s important to make sure you have the correct tools for this job before starting. Oil change kits are readily available at your local auto parts store and can be purchased either individually or as part of an oil change package depending on how frequently you plan to service your GMC.

First of all always necessary tools are required for oil change. A standard set of metric sockets and wrenches, a rubber mallet, a drain pan, oil filter wrench and an oil filter.

When you get all the necessary tools you can start your car maintenance by yourself following this simple guide and change your 2014 GMC Sierra’s oil:

Step 1.

Pull the car into your garage, remove your oil filler cap or a clean side separator.

Step 2.

Now the next thing you want to do is actually drain your oil. So underneath the truck, you’ve got your oil filter. Use 15 millimeter wrretch. Let it drain out. Wipe your frame off.

Put the drain plug back in.

Step 3.

Remove the oil filter. Fill the new filter with oil partially so that it’s not sucking up dry sump right when you start the motor. Make sure you always lube the top of the gasket with a little bit of oil just to make you have a good seal. And you never want to tighten this on with a wrench. It’s always just hand tight and then just snug.

Make sure you clean off the opening and the mating surface that this plug is going to go against. Check so there’s no leftover rubber grommet from the previous oil cap and mine looks good.

Step 4.

Let’s fill her up with oil. Long funnel helps things make it a lot easier to get to.

Step 5.

That’s going to pull the dipstick out right now and just clean it off try to show you where you want to be. You can see there’s a hashmark.

Reset your oil life meter. If you have one, depending on your vehicle, go into your menu, click Reset Bada and you’re done. Record your mileage to just to keep it on file so you can change oil with proper intervals.
