If it’s time to change oil in your 2012 GMC Terrain use owner’s manual  for reference. Engine oil affects the reliability and durability of 2012 GMC Terrain engine, so vehicle owner has to regularly change it.

VISCOSITY GRADE

The approved oil type for the 2011 GMC Acadia is the SAE 5W-30. The API Certification Seal certifies that this motorized vehicle meets all of its performance capabilities and safety standards with these approved fluids in their proper operating range, so you can feel confident about your purchase.

Using a different viscosity might result in undesirable effects. For example, heavier oil would cause the engine to consume more fuel; this may lead to undesired driving behavior and eventually damage the vehicle.

CAPACITY

2011 GMC Acadia 3.6L 6-cyl Engine oil capacity is listed as 6.0 US qt (5.7 liters) on GMC website and in owners manual .

SPECIFICATION OF OIL

GM Original Equipment Dexos SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil, by ACDelco is highly recommended by GM. Though any oil with Dexos sticker is GM approved, and any oil with proper viscosity may perform good enough.

2011 GMC Acadia Oil Change Intervals

GMC recommends getting your 2021 GMC Acadia oil & oil filter changed every 3000-5000 miles for conventional fuel. Synthetic fluids should be replaced at an interval of 7500 – 10000 miles to prolong the life of engine parts in cars that use them so they don’t wear out too soon before you get around to changing it yourself.

The oil you want to use should be a mid-grade or full synthetic. You can go lower or higher than those grades, but the engine may not run as smoothly and that could mean some problems down the road as you drive.

Oil should be changed according to the 2011 GMC Acadia’s recommended maintenance interval. It can vary depending on many factors such as: driving style (aggressive/conservative), conditions (city/highway), and other vehicle components which could affect your oil change intervals (like turbochargers).

If this is the first time you are changing the oil then take a look at this article which describes the process using pictures.

Step 1.

First thing you need is 5w-30 motor oil and an oil filter.

Step 2.

When you get under the car, use 15 millimeter nut underneath the oil pan you can also use a little piece of cardboard to shield the stuff so it drains into the pan without going all over the whole place in the muffler. And we’re going to drain it on out.

Step 3.

Looking right straight down from the oil fill plug on the engine, there’s a big cover, kind of right in the front to the left of the firewall. Take that off. You put the filter wrench on it, and you just kind of snug it up and tight. And then you twist it completely off. When you’re put the new one back on you just tighten it up, but it doesn’t need to be super tight, just snug. Almost hand tighten.
