How to Change Oil by Yourself – Step by Step

Just let that drain out and then we’ll get the oil filter off. You see it to the right of oil, it’s is pretty much down to a trickle, so go and remove the oil filter with a filter wrench.

Get some 5w-20 oil. That’s what this Honda requires. Get the new filter ready.

Put the new crush washer on the drain plug. What you want to do with a new filter is basically just tip your finger and oil the gasket and pull it in. Clean off the working area. Clean off the surface to the oil filter make sure there’s no stuck gasket on it from the old one.

Still may be dripping a little bit but just clean it up a little bit wipe it down in the surface. Just snug it up. Sure, it’s nice and tight. Don’t overdo it, they’ll strip it and that’s it.

Step 4.

The Honda Odyssey asked for 4.5 quarts of oil. Start with a four qt and then add another half a quart.

Okay, once you put in the oil, start it up. Let it run for a few minutes make sure there’s no leaks anywhere underneath the vehicle then shut off the engine and check the dipstick. Add more oil you have to. And what you want to look for is basically on the dipstick there’s the area that’s marked. So make sure it’s in between.

Step 5.

Than reset the Maintenance Minder: switch ignition on and hold it down. If you’re on the screen already, hold it down for hold down the reset.
