2017 nissan pathfinder oil change

Nissan’s recommendation for your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is to change the oil and filter every 3,000-5,000 miles. Synthetic oils should be changed at 7500 – 10000 depending on manufacturer recommendations and driving conditions. What this means is you can change your own oil. You don’t need to go out and pay for an oil change every 3k miles, though if that makes you happy then of course there’s nothing wrong with that. It takes about 20 minutes to do the job (from start to finish), instead of paying the fee.

The change interval for synthetic oils is longer than conventional oil and some experts recommend changing it less frequently than conventional. You’ll need to do the math and see what your vehicle manufacturer recommends, but this doesn’t mean you can’t save a some money by doing it yourself.

How to Change Oil by Yourself – Step by Step

Nissan has always been known for producing reliable vehicles, and the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder is no exception. The only downside to the car is that it needs an oil change every 3,000 miles or so. Changing your own oil can save you both time and money in the long-run. Follow these step by step instructions on how to change your vehicle’s oil yourself!

Step 1.

Some people are able to do the oil change without jacking up the vehicle or putting on ramps but if you can do this, don’t hesitate. We’ll start from here.

Put on your parking brake and chalk one of your rear wheel. Place your drain pan directly underneath the oil pan.

Step 2.

Go ahead and remove the oil cap and this will help drain the oil faster. Using a 14 millimeter socket remove the drain bolt from the oil pan.

Step 3.

While the oil is draining, we can remove the oil filter on the front passenger side. So right here is the front passenger wheel behind the wheel there is this plastic flashcard if you lift this up, you see, there’s no need to remove this panel.

To remove the filter we’ll be using the wrench. So make sure you have the drain pan underneath this area. Let us give you a little tip if you find that the filter wrench is not able to remove the filter, because it’s on very tight, you can use this other tool which has a rubber strap you can adjust the diameter of the strap. And then once you place it onto the filter, you pull it this way. And it gives you a lot of leverage to turn that filter on this 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. This is something Nissan changed for the 2017 model, whereas the 2013 to 2016 model did not require full synthetic. Now part of the reason for this change is because this engine in the 2017 is actually different than the engine that was in the 2013 to 2016 model. One of the main difference is this engine is now direct injection, you also need a new oil filter.

When you’re installing the new copper crush washer, notice there’s a round side and a flat side we want to do is thread the round side onto the bolt.

Once all the engine was drained out with this area clean and then reinstall the drain bolts.

As you tighten the bolt you’ll see the crush washer being crushed until it flattens the Nissan spec.

Step 4.

Get ready the new oil filter. Remove the plastic cover, before you install the new oil filter take some of the new oil put on your finger and coat the threading inside and also the gasket.

When it comes to installing the oil filter not actually provide you with instructions on how to install this. As you can see in step one, it tells you to apply a coat of engine oil to the packing the packings referring to the gasket and then screw the oil filter onto the engine until the gasket touches. Now tight knit with more than two thirds turn. Take a clean towel and just work this area.

And also make sure you don’t have the old gaskets stuck to the surface right here. Now we’ll install the new oil filter.

Stop turning once the gasket touches the metal surface. Next we’ll use this filter wrench with a line marked on it so you can visually see when you’ve turned a filter two thirds turn and also by using this will give you a bit more leverage.

Step 5.

Using your funnel refill the engine oil.

Now we’re gonna take this car off the ramps so be on a level ground.

Don’t forget to remove your wheelchair to the back and also remove the oil drain pan underneath.

Let the engine run for about three minutes. Then we’ll shut off and check the level and check for leaks when you check the oil level on this Nissan you do need to wait a good five to 10 minutes for the oil to settle down before you can get a good reading on the dipstick.

To check the oil level on the dipstick, go ahead remove it first and then wipe it. We reinstall it and insert all the way in and then take it out.

And you see those right at the H mark. You want it between the L mark and the H mark.

Also don’t forget to check underneath the vehicle and make sure the drain bowl and the oil filter is not leaking. If you do find any type of small drips, what you want to do is tighten up those items. Then reset the maintenance reminder, go to navigate the menu press the page button. Scroll down to maintenance. Hit Enter, select Service, hit Enter. The service reminder is set to 5000 miles. Push it down, select to go to Reset, hit Enter.

Step 6.

Now the main is reminder is reset to zero miles. You can go back and exit. So if you turn off the engine and turn it back on, you’ll see the warning message is gone now.
