How to Change Oil by Yourself – Step by Step

Step 1.
The first thing you’re gonna want to do is slip up the vehicle and secure with some jack stands.
Next thing we’re doing is we’re going to go ahead and pop up the oil cap and just sit it on the side. Get ready the oil pan to catch the oil that we’re going to release from the motor and a wretch that is going to be a size 14 millimeter to break that loose. Let’s go ahead and break that loose.
Step 2.
Once you break it loose, just go ahead and untighten it by hand. Because you’re gonna want to catch that before it falls into the oil pan, just like so. Now it’s time to clean this. And just go ahead and let all of the oil drain out. It takes at least about 10 minutes so you can make sure that all of the oil is drained out of the system. Then go ahead and clean up this bolt.
Alright, once it’s finished draining, you can either plug it up or wait a little bit longer. We’re gonna just clean the surface. And then go ahead and plug it back together. Alright, let’s go ahead and secure that bag down with the size 14 millimeter. Not too tight, just enough. Perfect.
Step 3.
Now we’re gonna go ahead and use this little spider gear that you should get. It clamps down and it removes the filter. Use a ratchet to loosen that up. We’re going to position the oil catch pan right underneath it. Use a paper towel or your hands.
Once it finished draining up, just go ahead and wipe it down. Let’s go ahead and grab this filter and turn it off completely. This pen might have a little nipple sticking out. So, you put that filter on, make sure the seal is off it is perfect, go ahead and clean that surface off. And we’re ready to install the new filter.
Step 4.
We’re gonna grab a little bit of new oil and just put it around the rim on this new seal. And we’ll go ahead and insert this up there. What you can do when possible is fill this up with oil. That way we don’t starve the motor when we start it up. And let’s go ahead and insert this back there. So let’s go ahead and tighten that. What you might do is grab a rag and just hand tighten it and that’s it. No need to be over tighten at all just like the the oil drain plug and we’re done at the bottom.
Step 5.
So let’s go up on top and fill up the motor with oil. Let’s go ahead and remove the check stance and lower the vehicle. Put in the funnel on top and let’s go ahead and add all 5qt to the motor. Once all the oil is done, there it is. You can take that to our recycling center.
Step 6.
Next thing we got to do is reset the oil life. To reset the oil life on this Nissan Sentra, we’re going to go ahead and start it up first. So, go to the Menu. We’re going to go ahead and click on Settings. We’re going to go ahead and use this little menu here or these little buttons to scroll down. We’re gonna hit enter to go into maintenance. There’s the oil and oil filter. Go ahead and click OK. And that’s just it.
