It is always better to check the owner’s guide for your 2011 Honda Pilot before changing oil.  Changing oil by yourself is cheaper than paying for an oil change at the dealership or taking it to a mechanic. It will also help you understand your car better and get you more familiar with its maintenance schedule.

VISCOSITY GRADE

By the owner’s manual, the Honda Pilot will need premium-grade 5W-20 detergent oil with an API Certification seal on the container. Genuine Honda motor oil works best, but you can also use a different engine oil of the recommended viscosity.

CAPACITY

The Honda Pilot requires 4.3 liters (4.5 quarts) of SAE 5W-20 engine oil for a full change, and you should also consider rotating your tires as part if the routine maintenance on this vehicle to keep them at their best condition.

SPECIFICATION OF OIL

If you look into the 2011 Honda Pilot owner’s manual, it is recommended that you use premium-grade 5W-20 (preferably Genuine Honda Motor Oil) detergent oil with an API Certification Seal.

The recommended oil change interval for the 2011 Honda Pilot is every 7,500 miles or every year, whichever comes first.

So, if you are driving 7,500 miles per year or more, you should change your oil every 7,500 miles. If you are driving less than 7,500 miles per year (or one year), plan to change your oil at least once a year.

The owner’s manual only tells the driver when the last oil change was and when the next one is due in miles/km and oil type. Knowing when the last oil change was completed and how many miles/km were driven since your last oil change is important information to have before heading out to buy new motor oil. You will need this info so you can be sure to buy the proper viscosity (SAE 5W-20) motor oil. Knowing how many miles/km you’ve driven since your last oil change is also very important knowledge if the engine starts to run abnormally; you will know to immediately turn around and bring it in for service.

To save money and time, consider changing your oil yourself. This article will help you with that.
